Spring will be here soon (although you wouldn’t know it since it’s still snowing in March), and it’s time to start thinking of fresh ways to style up your outfits. Some looks we have already seen last summer and as always with all trends, they get kicked up a notch and we start to see them everywhere, in bigger and bolder ways. The good news with that is that there are always more options for you to choose from. For example, if you don’t like gingham print tops from last summer but feel a closer style connection to the gingham pants., then you are in luck because this print is bigger than before.
Let’s take a look at some fresh spring summer 2018 looks and you decide if there’s anything you are dying to get your hands on (once the weather warms up of course…sigh). I hope it’s getting warmer where you are. Toronto is still quite chilly in March. Much love and let’s keep praying for warmer weather.
Stripes are really back in a big way. They are bold and bright and not shy to be ever so present in this season’s fashion landscape. I like them vertically and on a long kimono style jacket or wide legged pants as I find this to be most flattering for a petite gal like me. But that doesn’t mean you can’t rock them out like these runway models. If you are going to do stripes, then yes, this is exactly how they should be done.
Pastels are always a sure sign of warmer weather coming to greet our days once more. While pastels are not really a new trend, the newness of this is that there is a new colour that has taken over the season, lavender. You can wear any shade of lavender that works best for you and you can even mix and match the various shades, for an ultra elegant and look thats says you look so money. Remember monochrome always works, so think of that the next time you are ramping up on the pastel trend.
Sequins are here for daytime. The fabric which was reserved for late night dinner and dancing is the new street style star of the year. You may be thinking its odd to have such a night time piece become a daytime favourite. Styling up sequins for this season will be a ton of fun. The key to wearing these in daytime is to keep an opposite and equally strong look take shape. Think opposite of sequins and chances are they will make a great pair. So think platform running shoes, shorts, leather leggings, denim…anything that is opposite of formal and dressy would work wonders with sequins.
HIGH WAISTED PANTS
I know we said we hated mom jeans but seriously, these high waisted pants are a new obsession. They have been inching their way forward over the last few seasons and now they are becoming more mainstream. Can you see why? They look good. Period. They define your waist and cinch you in without needing to accentuate your waist with a belt. It’s gives you such an effortless classic and elegant look. All you need to do is throw on a tank top or a great buttoned up blouse, add a blazer or a cape and you will look super classy!
Checks are here to stay for now. Check out my last youtube video on how to style them. It started with the plaid blazer and has now made its way to suits, skirts and accessories and I never thought I would love checks this much. It’s such a great look to enjoy styling. You can make checks look seriously corporate or make them fun and girly and totally on trend.
Florals are not just for weddings this season. We saw them come on strong last fall and now they are showing up on suits, blazers, pants and skirts. They are not your ordinary florals as they are head to toe and they have transitioned to tropical florals as well. With this much invigorated flower power, we can’t be bored with our outfits.
The cutest print from last season was the gingham print. It’s not just for picnics anymore. While this print is a super fun and typical spring/summer look, the new take this season is that we are seeing it on more than just tops. Pants, blazers and full on suits are such a fresh way of updating your wardrobe this summer.
Will you be trying one of these looks for spring/summer? Don’t be intimidated by them. Just start with 1 basic piece and you will instantly add a cool girl vibe to your outfit.
