How do you kickstart a fresh Spring 2018 wardrobe for under $50? It’s all about the accessories. Adding accessories that are trending is all it takes to make you look like a street style star. I love styling outfits with accessories because you can take that same dress you have been wearing year after year, and just mixing up and changing the accessories is all it takes to give it that fresh on point look.
Take what you already have in your closet and think about adding some of these accessories and pronto…you will look instantly trendy, and all for under $50. Of course you want to choose whatever trend speaks to you and whatever you feel most comfortable with. The good news is you can add a pair of hip shades for $20 and out the door you go into the land of having people think you just may be one of those instagram stars!
Accessory Trend No.1: Teeny Tiny Glasses
This trend is back and it looks like it will be sticking around for a while. There is something about a trend that makes a comeback that somehow makes it ultra cool. Even if you’re sitting on the fence as to whether you like this or not, you can pick up a pair for $25 at Zara (www.zara.com) and give them a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how your entire look will be instantly elevated.
Accessory Trend No. 2: Big Plastic Glasses
Okay so these are super expensive and I must admit I was one of the lucky few to get my hands on these Cavalli babies in pink…I mean these glasses are EVERYTHING (see them on my Instagram post). However, there are similar styles in plastic and fun colours which are super affordable and under $50. I love the plastic frames trend, clear shoes, clear bags, statement earringsand the rock star feel this style gives you as it frames your movie star face! Definitely a fun way to add something to your outfit.
Accessory Trend No. 3: Plastic Shoes and Handbags
Okay her comes another confession. I just picked up a clear plastic pair of these Kendell and Kylie booties at Winners because they were so darn cute and I just couldn’t resist. I will also admit these were not $50 BUT Zara (www.zara.com) has a pair that are very similar except with a kitten heel and they are the affordable version. At first I was;t sire sure but when I put them on, they were so unbelievably flattering, I was shocked! You can wear them with jeans or a skirt and you can wear a pair of fish net short socks to give them an even funner look.
This one’s Prada but Zara and H&M has affordable versions which you can style. Do you really want everyone to see what’s in your bag though? Something to think about.
Accessory Trend No. 4: Cabby Hat
This is a trend I just covered in my last blog post. This is a hat style that most of us can pull off. For $25 you can have some fun with your look and look totally stylish.
Accessory Trend No. 5: Statement Earrings
Tassels started to be trending last year and now the earrings have become bigger and bolder. Unlike the earrings of the eighties these ones are very lightweight and won’t drag your ear lobes down to the ground, a la Kris Jenner.
Accessory Trend No. 6: Sparkly Shoes
The trend that started with the YSL $10,000 boots continues to be strong with the sparkle shoes continuing to, well…sparkle. I managed to find a pair that looks exactly like the $1,000 Gucci backless loafer for ONLY $23! I know I won’t be wearing them all the time, but when I am in the mood to slip them on, I will make my outfit sparkle…and I won’t feel bad wearing a few times only…they cost me so little.
Accessory Trend No. 7: Bandana Headbands
I popped into Zara the other day and there it was, the 80’s flashing right in front of me once again. The bandana headbands reminded me of a young Whitney Houston, but as I stared a little harder, I instantly fell in love with the bright bold colours and could imagine myself wearing one in Capri with my pink sunglasses….somehow when a trend returns you always find a way ti fall in love again…only in a fever way.
Accessory Trend No. 8:
Hello Carrie Bradshaw. This is such a great Sex and the The City moment, again. Frankly, I have never said good by to my flower power lapel and I am so glad it is returning. I have worn it with plain white tank tops, a la Carrie Bradshaw, or even with my suits and for under $10, this is a great way to add a bit if Carrie into your outfit of the day.
Accessory Trend No. 9: Pearls
Pearls are even bigger than last season. We saw pearls on denim and tops and now they are popping up on shoes, thank to Zara.
Accessory Trend No. 10: Fannypack
If it wasn’t Gucci, I am not sure I would love the fannypack. This time around they are much sleeker but arghhh…not sure so I think I will buy a very affordable version from Forever21 and see if I can welcome the comeback of this trend.
