It’s back!! The fishnet trend has made a comeback and let’s just admit that unless you are a die hard fashionista, it is intimidating. But have no fear, I am here to help you with your styling needs..but first a quick history lesson on this trend.
It started in the Victorian era, it then became a trend in the 1920’2 with flappers and showgirls. The 20th century saw the trend on flappers and showgirls. The ’90’s punk rockers and grunge folk had a love affair with fishnets. In 2016 it started coming back in a big way with street style fashionistas and instagram stars.
So how do you style this trend? It’s easier than you think. The simplest way to work it is with your favourite distressed denim. The idea is to show the fishnets through your distressed jeans. The bigger diamond fishnets work best this way. Jeans can be cropped and your shoes should be closed (no open toes please).
If this seems a little too complicated you could always get a pair of pre-made fishnet jeans thanks to Khloe Kardashian’s Good American jeans. Problem is they apparently sell out like hotcakes so you may have to save yourself over $200 and create your own look.
Can I see myself in this trend? Well, if you know me, you know I don’t wear stockings, pantyhose or socks. Yes, even in winter. The only time I can wear them is at the gym…so sadly for me, this trend poses a huge challenge. I can’t imagine wearing these under my jeans! Hmmmm…you never know though… I am thinking of grabbing my Halloween bag and grabbing those fishnets to give it a try.
