As you know, I’m a lawyer by day, a blogger by night and in between I am often times a life coach to my friends, family and colleagues. I just got done texting with a darling business associate who has been a big fan of mine since I started my blog, and who I consider to be a dear friend. When we finished the conversation she suggested that I blog about this, so here goes.
The one thing she told me, and the one thing everyone tells me after a Pina chat is ” Thanks Pina. I am so glad I spoke to you because I feel soo much better.” Colleagues come to my office and then leave telling me the same thing. Friends and family tell me the same thing. What exactly is is that I do, that makes people feel better? I know it happens. I can see them transform before me, or I can hear it in their voices. So what do I do exactly?
First of all you can’t make anyone feel better unless you truly are compassionate and care about how others feel. Don’t get me wrong, I am not Mother Teresa, but at the end of the day I care about people. I think we all do in a sense, but it also has to do with being able to connect with others – which I seem to do very well. I am always able to find that one common denominator with that person who is the complete opposite of me.
I am driven by a desire to want to help others. This explains why I love being a lawyer and why I am driven to spend my non working hours blogging about fashion and style, trying to bring a bit of fun and glam into your lives. I am a gal who derives great pleasure in being of service to others. Maybe I can blame it on the Virgo in me. I certainly picked the right profession to be of service.
The big reason I started my blog was because I love inspiring people. I know it’s working because you tell me this everyday! Some followers tell me that they copy my OOTD looks and I am thrilled! That’s exactly why I do this! I want you to be inspired by me in any way possible. Take my looks, mix them with your looks and feel good about yourself. Nothing makes me prouder than to know that I have affected you in a positive way.
At the end of the day it’s not about being a shallow fabulous person. It’s about being fabulous on the inside and out. If we are not able to connect with others, put a smile on someone’s face, make someone feel better, help them resolve a problem, give them fashion or legal advice, or just hear them vent and interrupt them with a joke and make them laugh…then good God why are we here? We are not here just to look pretty and wear nice clothes! Well, yeah that is important (lol) but the point is to use fashion as a tool to make you feel better! It’s not a tool to get on your high horse. A pretty face is nothing without a beautiful soul. It’s like love and marriage. You can’t have one without the other.
Specifically my friend was asking me about studying law and whether law students can easily find jobs these days. Technically the answer is that there are way too many law graduates these days. But at the heart of it, I told her that’s not something that she should be discouraged by. At the end of the day, your journey is your journey and nothing is going to dictate what your calling is. Did you know that many successful business owners made their millions during the great depression? Don’t let circumstances beyond your control tell you what you are supposed to be in this world. Only you have the power to to do that. You can do anything you want! xoxo
