I attended a very interesting panel discussion at Holt Renfrew on Thursday night on luxury brands. Lisa Tant, former editor in chief of Flare magazine was part of the panel (and my heart skipped a beat when she said hi to me….yes she looked straight at me and said hi, as if she knew who I was or maybe she just liked my yellow suit). Let’s just say it’s a moment I will cherish. Unfortunately I tried to get a pic with her but she ran out before I could get one. So here’s a pic of me and my friend Sarah, enjoying an evening of luxury talk , wonderful cocktails and fun at the Holt Renfrew Cafe.
Yes the cafe just so happens to be beside all those heartbreakers…the designer shoes that just seem to know me by name. Of course, no discussion on luxury is complete without a wonderful dose of loubies. Who needs a cocktail when I can easily get my fix on the Fall 2014 collection? Just look at these beauties! I can give up every cocktail for the year for one of these pairs of loubies!
Once inside the cafe, we enjoyed a fabulous panel discussion on luxury. LUXURY – just the sound of that word evokes special feelings!!
What is the mystique behind luxury brands, where did luxury emanate from and what is luxury going to mean for future generations?
Luxury is authentic. It has a history and a real story. Luxury has changed over the years. Years ago a refrigerator was considered a luxury. Back in the day, air travel was considered a luxury. Today, many people consider time as a luxury. Each decade had a different luxury associated with it. Luxury today seems to centre very much around technology and having the latest and greatest.
Luxury means different things to different people. Fresh air is considered a luxury for some. A cashmere sweater can be a luxury. To a homeless person for example, a place to sleep is a luxury. To a very wealthy person, a gold plated private jet is a luxury.
This got me thinking, what is luxury to me? Of course, I love my louboutins as much as any fashionista. However, if luxury is something that we desire and makes up happy, then living a life I enjoy, day in and day out…this is luxury to me. I certainly enjoy every day.
So after all this wonderful talk on luxury brands, and appreciating all the craftsmanship and hours of work and love that goes into making a luxury product, I came to the conclusion that falling in love with your life and loving your life is the ultimate luxury to me. What does Luxury mean to you?
Ever wanted to get inside the guts of a luxury product to see the inner workings of the intricate craftsmanship? This exhibit at Holt Renfrew does just that. Take a look at these wonderful x-ray like images to help you truly appreciate the reason why these brands and products are indeed luxurious, sought after and very desired products. If you are in the Toronto area or live in Toronto, then I would highly recommend a trip to the downtown Holt’s. If you can’t make it, I hope you enjoy a few pics here. xoxoxo
